Republic of Srpska at The 8th European Summit of Regions and Cities
Given long time active participation in the activities conducted by the European Committee of the Regions, Republic of Srpska Representation in Brussels ensured its delegation which was lead by Ms Željka Cvijanovic, the President of the Republic to be present at the 8th European Summit of Regions and Cities, in Bucharest on 14 and 15 March, 2019.
During the Summit President Cvijanović met with the President of the European Committee of the Regions Karl-Heinz Lambertz, President of the Assembly of European Regions, Mr Magnus Berntsson, European Commission Special Representative for the Western Balkans, Mr Franz Schausberger as well as with the President of the Italian region of Umbria Ms Catiuscia Marini and the President of Bratislava Self-Governing Region, Mr Juraj Droba.
On those occasions, President Cvijanović expressed commitment of the Republic of Srpska institutions to the European path, with full respect of the Dayton Agreement and the constitutional competences of all levels of government in BiH, and stressed that all issues related to the European integration process must be addressed with respect to the principles and rules of the harmonized coordination mechanism. It was also discussed on establishment of economic cooperation between the other regions as well as the exchange of experiences regarding accession to the EU funds.
Additionally, the President Cvijanović gave an exclusive interview to the Romanian National Television.
The 8th European Summit of Regions and Cities, which is organized every two years, brings together more than 1,000 politicians and experts from various parts of the entire Europe, who discuss the future of the European Union, as well as the role of local and regional authorities in the process of decision making.
