Serbian Orthodox Church in Antwerp celebrates its Patron Saint's Day
Last week, the Serbian Orthodox Church, St. George in Antwerp celebrated its Patron Saint's Day.
Namely, a wonderful Holy Liturgy was performed in honor for the first canonical visit of the new Western European Bishop Justin Jeremic, the glory of the Parish along with the ordination of Father Dušan Marković.
The ceremony was attended by Republic of Srpska's representatives from Brussels accompanying with Mrs. Vesna Lalic, head of the consular department, Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in Brussels.
The celebration of the family Patron Saint's Day (Slava or Krsna Slava) is a uniquely Serbian custom. All members of the same family or community observe together a day set aside to honor their saint or protector. The saint remains unchanged from father to son as a traditional inheritance.
